Post Title: Roads and Street Works Inspector
(£37,000 - £43,500)
Department: Network Management
Reports To: Roads and Street Works Manager
Purpose of the Job:
As the Highway Authority, the council is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that works conducted on the highway adhere to relevant Codes of Practice, the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991, and the Traffic Management Act 2004.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking an exceptional individual with strong organizational and communication skills to fill the role of Street Works Inspector. Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Inspection and Reporting: Conduct thorough inspections, record findings, and report on street works, highway infrastructure, and surface apparatus defects in alignment with street works legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and other pertinent highways legislation.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all activities carried out on the highway comply with safety and legal requirements as stipulated by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. Address any breaches of regulations appropriately.
Legal Proceedings: Prepare prosecution witness statements for incidents of illegal activities related to roads and street works conducted on the public highway.
Public Inquiries: Address inquiries from members of the public, Councillors, stakeholders, and other Council departments. Take necessary actions while avoiding any potential prejudice to the Council's litigation positions, such as those involving accidents, planning appeals, and traffic enforcement.
Statutory Undertakers Works: Conduct comprehensive inspections of Statutory Undertakers' works as outlined by the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.
Collaboration and Coordination: Attend site meetings with representatives from the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London, Utility Companies, or their agents. These meetings are essential for effectively coordinating street works.
