As a business, we're always looking to the future. We know how vital it is to commit to sustainable business and to limit our impact on the environment in the most responsible way.
Positive Planet Certified
We're making a promise to the planet to take responsible steps to minimise our carbon emissions. To help us achieve this we're partnering with Positive Planet to help us measure & reduce our carbon footprint.
Fossil to Clean Letter to COP28
We have signed a letter addressed to world leaders attending the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, written by We Mean Business Coalition. The Fossil to Clean letter outlines the need for urgency in phasing out fossil fuels and ramping up the development of renewable energy sources. It has been co-signed by over 125 other businesses which represent almost $1 trillion in revenue.
You can read the letter and sign with your business here.
SME Climate Commitment
Carrington West is making the SME Climate Commitment. Companies that sign up to the SME Climate Hub are pledging to halve greenhouse gas emissions before 2030, and to achieve net zero emissions before 2050.
Find out more about SME Climate Hub here.
Why does this matter?
2022 is the most decisive year in climate action history and we believe that everyone must play their part. The global temperature is currently 1.1°C warmer than it was in the late 1800s, and emissions continue to rise. As called for in the Paris Agreement, global emissions need to be reduced by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050 to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
As well as improving the future of our planet, being more environmentally friendly can benefit our physical and mental wellbeing, and even save money.
What are we doing?
Since launching our commitment, we've made plans for key actions throughout the year to reach our goals:
Measuring, monitoring and reporting our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 carbon footprint and activity.
We hold the ISO14001 accreditation.
Improving our staff awareness, encouraging sustainable practices both in the workplace and at home.
Supporting environmental charities and initiatives.
Working with our suppliers to ensure sustainability is at the top of their agenda.
Creating a Sustainable Talent Supply Chain
We are passionate about leading the way in improving standards within the recruitment industry and in the industry sectors we serve. The UK built environment sectors have environmental and sustainability policies at their core, working towards nationwide and global goals such as rail decarbonisation, alternative power production and planning greener urban areas and transport networks. Our role is to make sure that our contribution to the talent supply change helps our clients meet their own goals and contributes to creating a sustainable talent supply chain across the UK.
In November 2023, we achieved the Supply Chain Sustainability School's Gold accreditation badge. This highest level badge is credited to our commitment to learning and improving our sustainability as a business and a supplier.
Net Zero Statement
As part of Net Zero Week 2022, we published the below statement to summarise our commitments and our actions:
At Carrington West we are committed to the fight against climate change, already holding a BSI iSO14001 accreditation and have recently signed the SME climate commitment to reach net zero by 2050 and halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030. This pledge is recognised by the United Nations race to zero campaign, and we are working with a credible partner, Positive Planet who will support us in measuring our greenhouse gas emissions against GHG Protocol and Science Based Targets and to deliver a carbon reduction strategy. We will be engaging with all our supply chains to reduce our scope 3 emissions and finding innovative solutions to reduce our Scope 1 & 2 emissions. Where we cannot reduce these, we will be working toward Certified Carbon Neutral Accreditation through UN Gold Standard offsetting projects that deliver long term benefits and allows us to communicate our sustainable credentials.
Our carbon reduction plan
Carrington West is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and we have been working with Positive Planet to calculate our emissions. To achieve Net Zero, we aim to reduce emissions in line with the latest science-based targets (SBTs, which is a greenhouse gas reduction goal set by organisations).
Our targets:
Review and set Scope 1 targets following discussions with our landlord to understand building decarbonisation timelines.
Maintain Scope 2 emissions at zero up to and beyond 2030. We will continue to engage with our landlord to obtain primary data regarding energy consumption.
Reduce Scope 3 emissions by 42% from our baseline year (2023) by 2030. We will do this by committing to a continuous sustainability audit to request further information regarding credentials. This data collection will support the reduction journey by gathering data and encouraging supply chain integration towards Net Zero.
Reduce our total market-based emissions (Scope 1,2 and 3) by at least 90% by 2050. We have a sustainability team from different departments to generate new ideas, encouraging sustainability in the workplace and at home.
Neutralise any residual emissions using verified carbon offsets.
We are working with our office landlord to actively discuss and implement initiatives to help lower our emissions, following further understanding around long-term plans we will update our targets in line with their feedback.
