Associate Director Level Civil Engineer
My client is a creative multidisciplinary engineering practice with offices in London and Birmingham. It prides itself on its close collaboration with architects to achieve intelligent, innovative structures and its large portfolio spanning from arts to aviation, prototyping to housing, and inflatables to loadbearing stone.
The London office are currently looking for an Associate Director to join the team in London to lead and grow the small Civils team.
Duties and key responsibilities / role:
Company responsibilities:
·Commitment to company policies and code of conduct
·Act professionally and with due regard to the public interest and to the interests of all those affected by our professional activities
·Where required, assist the directors in the management of the company
·Undertake recruitment where required
·Liaise, collaborate and coordinate with other project team members
·Attend meetings and represent the organisation externally
·When required, lead company meetings
Project responsibilities:
·Responsible for maintaining and developing client relationships
·Responsible for discussing and resolving with the client any issues they have with the performance of Engineers
·Responsible for ensuring the projects are delivered in line with company procedures
·Review and agree project strategy (programme, fees, technical delivery, resourcing) with project lead
·Review financial and technical performance of projects
·Responsible for ensuring the project team are working within the agreed scope
·Responsible for maintaining and updating billing plans and invoicing schedules
·Provide technical support to projects in terms of reviews or facilitating Director or specialist input
·Review and negotiate contracts on behalf of Engineers
·Stand in for Project Lead when appropriate (sick, on leave, training courses etc)
·If it arises, support the directors in managing and resolving claims when they arise, advise on changes in company policy and procedure to avoid future incidents
·Responsible for the delivery of the project within the allocated budgets, programme and client's expectations
·Responsible for monitoring and reporting on project profitability
·Responsible for agreeing additional fees for variations and additional scope
·Responsible for project billing
·Responsible for chasing debtors and ensuring bad debts are resolved
·Approve Purchase Orders
Technical:
·Oversee the production of project deliverables across a number of projects
·Undertake the checking and reviewing of engineering designs and deliverables
·Guide the team to produce viable technical solutions, within the scope of a design brief
·Provide technical expertise to junior members of staff of complex technical challenges
·Advise the client and team on construction techniques and solutions
·Advise the team and client on relevant environmental and sustainability issues and legislation
·Advise on relevant statutory legislation
·Advise on project procurement routes
·Advise on relevant construction and contract law where required
·Carrying out site visits and surveys
Training:
·Commitment to develop professional skills
·Support the technical development of junior staff
Team Management:
·Act as line manager to staff within your team
·Lead into weekly project programming at team meetings
·Lead into resource forecasting (time and cost) at team meetings
·Review team project financial and technical performance
·Undertake employee appraisals
·Approve team timesheets, expenses and holiday
·Undertake return to work interviews in line with WYE sickness policy
·Cascade WYE communications to teams via team meetings
Experience:
·Candidates will have a Bachelors or Master's in Civil Engineering (2:1 minimum)
·Must be a Chartered member of a relevant professional technical such as Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM)
·10 year's post Chartership experience.
Business Development:
·Responsible for developing and maintaining external peer level relationships.
·Responsible for developing opportunities with existing clients
·Responsible for finding opportunities with new clients
·Produce fee proposals for projects
·Lead and coordinate project bid
Health & Safety:
·Lead Health and Safety requirements and legislation for your projects
·Compliance with CDM regulations in line with project duties
