Principal Geo-environmental Engineer
Our client is looking for a Principal Consultant Geo-environmental Engineer the join their team in Manchester. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing project investigations with both a geotechnical and environmental content.
The role will be focused on strategic land opportunities and commercial development projects which require focused commercial geo -environmental input . This will range from effective client liaison, preparation of proposals and bids , design site investigations and preparation of reports and follow-up remediation and validation statements. The role will include mentoring and supporting junior staff including where necessary undertaking site investigations.
Requirements of the role:
► Be able to review factual and interpretative reports
► Be able to thoroughly interrogate geological maps and access geological data via the BGS website to inform complex conceptual models for geotechnical and/or contamination purposes
► Be able to thoroughly interrogate historical maps and other sources of historical information and understand how these might alter complex conceptual models
► Be able to thoroughly interrogate hydrogeological / hydrological maps / hydrogeological data such as catchment management plans and understand how these might alter the existing conceptual model
► A thorough understanding of water and gas monitoring techniques
► A thorough understanding of waste management and regulatory framework
► A thorough knowledge of the relevant guidelines and codes of practice for the investigation and assessment of contaminated land to at least the GQRA stage and an understanding throughout the CLR11 process or equivalent geotechnical/geophysical techniques
► A thorough understanding and practical use of generic assessment criteria for human health, groundwater and surface water for all media (soil, groundwater, surface water, ground gas and soil gas) including appropriate statistical assessment and an understanding of the limitations of the criteria and what to do when the screening criteria are exceeded
► A thorough understanding of soil mechanics, if appropriate
► A thorough understanding of the purpose of basic geotechnical tests and be able to schedule them appropriately
► A thorough understanding of different foundation options available for structures
► Competence in the use of computer software packages required for project work (Word, Excel, gINT, P-log, CLT).
Responsibilities of the role:
► Provide leadership with respect to development, review and authorisation of risk assessments and method statements, and health and safety plans
► Provide and promote NMPI, incident reports as appropriate
► Undertake site inspections, project reviews and other audits as required
► Upon project award check commercial project terms, scope of work, site access and liaise with administrative staff to set up necessary project files
► Maintain client confidentiality and manage potentially sensitive issues
► Supervise junior staff in the project team in particular with respect to fieldwork preparation and reporting
► Submit reports and liaise with regulators to enable planning or NHBC conditions to be approved
► Take responsibility for resolving client queries (with assistance from more senior staff)
► Communicate effectively with clients, regulators and other stakeholders as appropriate
