Principal Electrical Design Engineer (Defence) - Contract (Ongoing)
£65- 75 per hour (DOE) - Inside IR35
Glasgow - Hybrid
Our client are an international engineering consultancy with some excellent opportunities in the Defence industry for a Principal Electrical Engineer on a contract basis.
The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within, supporting operations and future programs at client sites.
Responsibilities
·Manage Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
·Handle design changes/concessions.
·Present Design substantiations to safety committees.
·Develop EIMT Schedule, procedures, and results.
·Produce Periodic Review of Safety reports.
·Advise internal and external stakeholders.
·Conduct Independent Technical Review.
·Apply engineering knowledge to nuclear/high-risk environments.
·Justify civil/structural design modifications.
·Review reports and safety submissions.
·Check and review calculations and technical documents.
Key Experience/Qualifications
·Knowledge of current design standards and practices, including British & European Standards.
·Theoretical and practical skills across concept, detailed design, and construction stages for electrical engineering projects.
·Experience in assessing electrical plant and equipment for hazards.
·Specifying electrical systems/components for HV & LV networks at 50Hz & 60Hz.
·Authoring technical justifications for electrical design modifications in high hazard industries.
·Familiarity with industrial machinery like pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA Systems, etc.
·Experience in multi-discipline projects providing electrical engineering input, especially in industrial/maritime sectors.
·Experienced in high-risk environments.
·Familiarity with safety case development techniques like HAZID/HAZOP studies.
·Worked in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defense), especially in safety-related structures, systems, and components.
·Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulations, and application of nuclear-specific codes and standards.
