Job Title: Building Surveyor
Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme
Rate: £40 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract Duration: 3 months (initially, with potential for extension)
 
Are you an experienced Building Surveyor looking for your next contract role? Newcastle-under-Lyme is seeking a skilled professional to lead and manage their Facilities Management function. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Council's objectives and maintaining our property assets.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
·Oversee and supervise staff and budgets within the Small Works and Repairs Section.
·Formulate and update the Service Plan and contribute to the Corporate Plan, focusing on the maintenance of Council assets.
·Prepare estimates, budgets, and performance measures, managing a large portfolio of repairs and improvements.
·Lead inspections and manage repairs, small capital works, and alterations across a range of council-owned properties.
·Manage statutory inspections and service contracts, including areas such as boilers, lifts, fire alarms, and asbestos management.
·Liaise on matters related to demolition, disconnection of services, and property alterations.
·Prepare technical specifications, tendering processes, and oversee works for refurbishment, alterations, and maintenance projects.
·Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and provide technical advice where required.
·Supervise the preparation of term maintenance contracts and ensure effective financial management.
 
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
 
·Proven experience in a Building Surveyor role, ideally within a public sector or local government environment.
·Strong knowledge of facilities management, statutory inspections, and building maintenance regulations.
·Demonstrated ability to manage teams, budgets, and a variety of maintenance and repair projects.
·Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations, including risk management and data quality requirements.
